Third-Party & Supply-Chain Risk: Your Vendor May Be the Weakest Link

November 13, 2025||

Modern businesses rely on SaaS, MSPs, logistics platforms, and payment gateways. Each vendor connection is a new door for attackers. Here’s how to reduce supply-chain cyber risk without slowing the business.

A Risk-Based Approach

  1. Map the ecosystem: List vendors, data flows, and privileges.
  2. Triage by impact: Rank vendors by data sensitivity and blast radius.
  3. Assess controls: Validate MFA, logging, SOC 2/ISO 27001, incident SLAs, and breach notification terms.
  4. Monitor continuously: Watch for credential stuffing, suspicious API calls, and abnormal data egress.

Contract Must-Haves

  • Breach notification windows and cooperation clauses.
  • Right-to-audit and minimum control baselines.
  • Evidence of testing: pen tests, code review, SBOMs.

Resilience Matters

Assume a vendor will fail—design for rapid containment. Enforce least privilege (or Zero Trust), network segmentation, and backup-restore drills independent of your providers.
